Clinical Skills Nurse Educator
The Clinical Skills Nurse Educator assists in developing, training, managing, coordinating, and monitoring clinical skills learning activities including those that involve standardized or simulated patients (SPs). The Clinical Skills Nurse Educator is directly responsible for training the SPs to: authentically portray clinic patients, assess medical student patient encounter skills, and provides constructive verbal and written feedback to medical students. The Clinical Skills Nurse Educator may also collaborate on clinical skills learning activities associated with other courses within the school of medicine and potentially with residents and/or clinicians in the Fort Worth community.
Duties and Essential Job Functions:
Assists in developing, training, managing, coordinating and monitoring Clinical Skills learning activities.
Facilitates planning and logistics for physical exam training (e.g. female and male reproductive wellness exams) and procedural skills training sessions.
Collaborates on SP case development and scenario design.
Participates in teaching and evaluation exercises with medical students.
Implements logistics for SP and simulation events which include organizing equipment, and other resources.
Collaborates on research related to SP education and methodology.
Assists in developing and participating in SP-related research activities.
Monitors and coaches SPs on delivering more effective verbal and written feedback.
Participates in quality assurance activities to ensure SP accuracy of case portrayal and scoring.
Attends weekly Clinical Skills and Simulation team meetings.
Attends relevant professional meeting(s) annually, such as the Association of Standardized Patient Educator annual conference (usually held in June) or the Society of Simulation in Healthcare (usually held in January).
Assists with non-human simulation (e.g. operating manikins and task trainers).
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
2 plus years of simulation experience in health sciences education, clinic setting or related experience.
Preferred Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
Member of ASPE (Association of Standardized Patient Educators).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of applicable strategies and approaches to contemporary medical education.
Ability to demonstrate excellent communication skills.
Ability to troubleshoot technical procedural concerns.
Ability to work independently and supervise others.
Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):
Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.
Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
