Development Officer for Reunions

Development Officer, School of Law

Supervisor: Associate Dean for Development, Alumni Relations & Strategy

Summary: The Development Officer for Reunions creates and leads a comprehensive annual fundraising effort for all Reunion Classes at the Law School



Responsibilities:


  • Design and lead a reunion fundraising program based on best practices from other law schools;
  • Identify, meet with and enlist reunion volunteers from professional (Trial Ad, In-House Counsel, Entertainment, Arts and IP, and ethnic affinity groups (LALSA, BLSA etc.);
  • Solicit each reunion volunteer for their reunion pledge in the $5,000 to $25,000 range; coordinate larger solicitations with Associate Dean;
  • Manage all aspects of the reunion peer-to-peer fundraising effort including training volunteers as to the needs of the school; sending out class list, identifying classmates with the most giving potential; making sure calls are made, and sending follow up notices;
  • In conjunction with the Associate Dean, set each class's fundraising goal (total dollars raised and class participation) and implement a plan to meet the goal each year.
  • Increase alumni giving 1 to 2 percentage points every year
  • Assist with identifying 5 to 10 new major gift donors annually
  • Target diverse alumni to increase attendance and participation in reunion activities.
  • Over time, create a vibrant culture of philanthropy so that recent graduates look forward to their 1 and 5 year reunions, and so on.
  • Take advantage of reunion outreach effort to also enlist volunteers to help recruit students (admitted student days, one-off emails and phone calls), mentor current students and hire students.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree required; J.D. preferred
  • One to three years of experience in fundraising or a related field
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Comfortable liaising with a variety of constituencies in face-to-face meetings and on the phone
  • Comfortable with technology; proficiency in Excel required
  • Discretion and tact in handling confidential information
  • Team-oriented work style and excellent judgment
  • Comfortable with change
  • Experience planning events is preferred
  • Comfortable asking people for money
  • Must be available to work nights and weekends when needed and travel in and around the metro-NYC area
