Division/Department Information

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the School of Education (SOE) at St. John's University is seeking applicants for a full-time clinical instructor to begin September, 2019. The SOE serves undergraduate and graduate students in the university, offering degree programs (Bachelors, Masters, Doctoral) and certification programs. The Residency Internship for St. John's Educators (RISE) program is a signature experience for undergraduate seniors in the SOE. The RISE program is an extended clinical practice program that offers unique features, including field-based faculty support and instruction and academic courses that bridge the gap between theory and practice. RISE faculty focus on key areas of student development that include educational theory, pedagogical techniques, professional development, and teacher candidate certification.



Responsibilities

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction is looking for candidates who can support the growth of the RISE program and provide instruction within RISE partner schools and/or undergraduate and graduate courses on campus. Candidates will be familiar with pedagogical techniques for diverse learners and professional certification requirements for teacher candidates. Candidates will deliver instruction in face to face contexts as well as virtually. Candidates will engage in teaching and supervising RISE residents in field-based settings; RISE faculty will also engage in professional program development and assessments. Student advisement and active participation in departmental and college events/committees will be required.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a terminal degree in an educational field and possess practitioner experience in early childhood, childhood and/or adolescent educational settings or similar contexts. Preference will be given to candidates who can support the growth of the RISE program and provide leadership and curricular programming. Candidates should be familiar with technology-supported pedagogy, be able to integrate technology into teaching, and use a variety of modes (face-to-face or virtual) for instruction. Additional knowledge of diverse learners, field-based settings and pedagogical practices are welcome. Candidates must show evidence of professional activity, teaching excellence, and student engagement.
