ASSISTANT, ASSOCIATE, OR FULL PROFESSOR OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE

The Division of Criminal Justice, Legal Studies and Homeland Security in the College of Professional Studies at St. John's University is seeking applicants a full-time tenure track position as Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Criminal Justice commencing September 1, 2020.

The Division

The Division of Criminal Justice, Legal Studies and Homeland Security has a dynamic practitioner/academic faculty division and provides the following relevant programs: an American Bar Association approved paralegal program, Criminal Justice and Homeland Security majors and minors at the undergraduate level and two graduate programs, including a Master of Professional Studies (MPS) in Homeland Security and Criminal Justice Leadership and an innovative Doctor of Professional Studies (DPS) in Homeland Security. Faculty focus on key areas of skill development that include critical thinking, oral and written expression, team membership, leadership and employability readiness. Responsibilities

The Division is looking for candidates who can support the growth of undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs and contribute to curricular programming in the new Homeland Security Simulation Center. Candidates should be familiar with technology-supported learning pedagogy, be able to integrate technology into teaching techniques for real data analysis, both face-to-face, online and hybrid modes. The Homeland Security Simulation Center offers student opportunities to apply coursework learning to realistic situations they may face. Candidates engage primarily in teaching and will support core and elective courses for a diverse array of students. Our faculty engage in professional and program development and assessment and service to the University and broader community. Professional activities including consultation, presentations, research and writing for the academic or professional community are expected. Student advisement and active participation in departmental and college events, academic assessment, and committees will be required.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a terminal doctoral degree in criminal justice, or a related and relevant discipline. Candidates possessing a JD who have gained admittance to a state bar association in conjunction with a related social science discipline are invited to apply as well. Candidates who possess professional practitioner experience in Criminal Justice or forensic psychology are preferred. Research-based teaching experience at the university level is required.

The ideal Assistant Professor candidate should possess university teaching experience and a well-developed research agenda. A research agenda will be requested prior to interview. At the Associate and Full Professor level, a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice or related area is expected, as is extensive teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels, a dynamic research agenda with evidence of a strong publication record, and well-developed liaisons to the professional community are expected.
