4-H ASSISTANT PROGRAM MANAGER


Position Summary:
Each Assistant Program Manager will provide coaching and support to a Wisconsin region's local 4-H faculty and staff to promote program development and implementation that leads to positive youth development environments for 4-H members. The Assistant Program Managers will also work as a leadership team, under the supervision of the Wisconsin 4-H Program Manager, to:
1) develop statewide supports for expanding program access for all youth, particularly those under-represented in Wisconsin 4-H membership,
2) support and develop systems that ensure staff and volunteers deliver high quality programs and follow established program priorities, policies and practices, and
3) support hiring and onboarding of personnel in local 4-H positions.

Three positions are available, each one covering multiple county/tribal-based programs around the state. It is anticipated that one will be focused in the north and two will be focused in the the southern and/or urban counties. The Office location to be determined based on successful candidate's preferences and availability of suitable space. It is preferable that at least one position be located in central/northern Wisconsin.

Frequent travel to meet with county/tribal-based 4-H colleagues, Area Extension Directors, and other local stakeholders will be required. The Assistant Program Manager is an employee of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Extension. 4-H is Extension's youth development organization, with approximately 30,000 members and 9600 volunteers providing programs through clubs, camps, and out-of-school time settings; learn more about Wisconsin 4-H here: https://4h.extension.wisc.edu/about-4-h/ .

Degree and Area of Specialization:
Master's or other graduate degree with academic preparation in a field that relates to the responsibilities of this position such as education, youth development, human ecology, social work, non-profit management, etc.


Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:
Required:
4 or more years of professional experience in developing and managing youth development, volunteer, or education programs
Experience supervising, mentoring, and/or supporting staff or volunteers
Strong interpersonal relationship and conflict resolution skills in a team setting
Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds, including differences in culture, race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, socioeconomic status, age, gender, physical and cognitive ability, sexual orientation, and other aspects of human diversity

Preferred:
Understanding of principles of learner-centered education and experience implementing effective educational programming
Understanding of theories and frameworks to promote positive youth development in group and community settings
Experience conducting evaluation and communicating program impact and value to stakeholders
Experience implementing practices and policy consistent with positive youth development principles.
Experience managing personnel, including hiring and onboarding.
Demonstrated ability to coach others in a context of individual and cultural differences
Demonstrated success in expanding access to programs and resources, particularly for underserved populations.
Demonstrated skills in interpreting, utilizing and applying evidence-based information and research findings
Effective communication and presentation skills using a variety of methods and technologies
Ability to promote Extension and its programs through various media and public relations strategies
Knowledge of Cooperative Extension's role as part of the U.S. system of land-grant institutions, dedicated to service in the public good

Additional Requirements:
Must be able to assume multiple travel days per week throughout geographies served and occasional travel within the state.
