Position Summary:
The Department of English at Monmouth University is seeking applications for an Assistant Professor in Composition and Rhetoric. This position is for the 2019-2020 academic year and is a tenure-track appointment.

Though areas of specialization are open, preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated research and teaching interests in one or more of the following areas: professional writing and technical communication; empirical research in the composing process; rhetoric of science; and minority, global, and/or cross-cultural rhetorics/literacies.

The candidate would be expected to: teach 9 credits per semester (12 credits with a 3 credit course load reduction), including first-year composition; serve on departmental and University committees; maintain disciplinary currency; advise students, provide career mentoring; and contribute to program development in Rhetoric and Writing at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The Department of English at Monmouth offers a vibrant environment for its faculty and students. We have a two-semester First Year Writing program, undergraduate concentrations in Literature and Creative Writing, and MA concentrations in Literature, Creative Writing, and Rhetoric and Writing. There are opportunities for faculty travel, professional development workshops, and grants for works in progress.

Required Degree, License or Certifications:
Doctoral degree, ABD candidates may be considered with degree completion expected by date of employment

Required Skills or Software:
Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills

Required Years of Experience: 2

Other Requirements:
PhD in English or a related field or ABD candidates with degree completion expected by date of employment.

Two years of college/university-level teaching experience.

Evidence of excellence in teaching and scholarship in the area of the candidates specialty.

Preferred Qualifications:
Specialization in Rhetoric or Composition.
