Assistant Dean, Graduate Services, College of Earth, Ocean and Environment

Under the limited direction of the Dean, the Assistant Dean for Graduate Services and Special Programs has specific responsibilities in fostering robust programs of graduate research and education by helping to create new graduate programs and services, growing current graduate programs and services, and responding to needs and opportunities from the local to global scale. The Assistant Dean works closely with the Department Chairs, the School Director, the Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Services, the Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration, and other administrative staff. The Assistant Dean will also work closely with the College faculty and the Office of Graduate Studies and Professional Education to develop ways to more effectively develop innovative graduate programs, recruit graduate students and focus on enhancing the diversity of the graduate programs within the College. The Assistant Dean will also coordinate with the College's development officer to bolster the communication and stewardship between fellowship donors and graduate students benefitting directly from their gifts. The College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment is home to over 140 graduate students. The Assistant Dean will oversee effective delivery of all graduate-level student-support, academic and financial services, and advisement functions in the College. These services are complementary to the academic advisement provided by the faculty of the College, and encompass all aspects of the graduate experience from the application process through degree conferral. The Assistant Dean will work to enhance the visibility of the academic programs within the graduate communities both external and internal to the University and assists students in ways that ensure their success at the University. The Assistant Dean will be responsible for helping in the development and implementation of new graduate degree and certificate programs such as, but not limited to, the e-Global Ocean Leadership executive program, the GIS certificate program, and 4+1 or 3+2 programs that pair existing undergraduate degrees with accelerated graduate degrees or certificates.
