Post Doctoral Researcher, Kinesiology & Applied Physiology

The Department of Kinesiology & Applied Physiology at the University of Delaware has an opening for a postdoctoral research associate in human physiology, with an emphasis in autonomic cardiovascular regulation. Ongoing projects include examining the effects of dietary sodium on cardiovascular and cerebrovascular function, as well as the effects of dehydration on sympathetic reactivity. The successful candidate will adopt a leadership role on several studies, and will receive training in multiple techniques including direct assessment of sympathetic outflow via microneurography. In addition, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to apply for independent funding and develop research projects to facilitate a successful transition to becoming an independent scientist. There is also potential to collaborate with other extramurally funded researchers, and to be involved in studies focusing on lifestyle interventions on cardiovascular function. Expectations include: writing grants and manuscripts, collecting and analyzing data, and presenting research at regional and national meetings. The position is funded by an NIH R01 and ongoing projects are also supported by an NIH COBRE grant . Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. The fellow will frequently interact with graduate students, other investigators, and research staff including laboratory coordinators, a dietitian, laboratory technicians, and research nurses. Experience performing human physiology research related to blood pressure regulation and/or vascular function is preferred. Individuals with a Ph.D. or equivalent in Kinesiology, Physiology, or relevant discipline and demonstrated research productivity are encouraged to apply.
