MICROBIOLOGY LAB TECH/RESEARCH SPECIALIST


Position Summary:
The Infection Control Research Program, led by Nasia Safdar, MD, PhD, seeks to improve the health and quality of life of patients through high-impact learning health systems, transformational research on infection control and prevention using translational methods, clinical trials, microbiology and implementation science. Dr. Safdar's research laboratory is seeking a Research Specialist to help with ongoing and future projects. The selected candidate for this position would work closely with the current microbiology lab staff to process clinical specimens, update study databases, identify microorganisms, and ensure specimen integrity. Opportunities to lead laboratory-based projects along with learning molecular biology skills such as DNA extraction, PCR, and sequencing will be available based on skill sets and work ethic.

Degree and Area of Specialization:
Bachelor's degree required.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:
At least 1 year of microbiology, clinical laboratory science or molecular biology experience required.

At least 1 year experience in clinical microbiology with major emphasis on identification of organisms desired.

Additional Information:
This is a terminal position lasting 2 years. There is a possibility it may be made renewable if there is a need for an ongoing appointment and/or funding becomes available.
