S.C. Governor’s School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM)

 

 

The mission of the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) is to seek out and advance the state’s most talented and motivated students, offering them a transforming education in science, mathematics and engineering that cultivates joy in learning and builds the confidence to engage as ethical leaders with the world’s most significant issues. In alignment with its mission, GSSM seeks exceptional full-time permanent Biology instructor to teach beginning Fall 2019.

 

GSSM is nationally recognized for the quality of its advanced STEM, research, and international programs.  The school has embarked on a visionary strategic plan to identify and challenge highly motivated and capable students, from all backgrounds in South Carolina, and help them achieve their highest potential. Our faculty come from all over the world and share a passion for their disciplines and a gift to inspire and lead their students to understanding and a joy for learning. We are looking for outstanding individuals who believe in the GSSM mission, commit themselves to the success of their students, enjoy learning new ways to teach and learn, and set an example for joyful curiosity, hard work, and collegiality.

 

Experience of Applicants:  The successful applicant must be able to teach AP Biology and other elective courses and have experience teaching at the university, college or advanced high school level. Further we are seeking candidates with an interest in teaching new elective courses that are currently not offered in the course catalog.  A full listing of courses currently taught can be found at www.scgssm.org.  We encourage the development of interdisciplinary curricula, directed studies approaches, etc.   GSSM classes are taught in a traditional class settings and virtual modalities.  Experience and comfort in both is a plus.  Demonstrated desire to work collegially to create unique and innovative experiences for the students served is a must.  An understanding of gifted learners, an enthusiasm for teaching motivated and talented high-school-aged students, and knowledge of state of the art pedagogy are necessary for teaching success at GSSM. 

 

Education of Applicants:  The successful applicant will have a Master’s degree in Biology or related field.  A PhD is preferred. 

About GSSM:  Located in Hartsville, SC, GSSM is a statewide, public residential high school for 11th and 12th graders specializing in the advanced study of science, mathematics and engineering. Salary and Benefits: This is a full-time (10-month) permanent teaching position with benefits available through the State of South Carolina.  Salary is competitive and commensurate with credentials, experience and unique capabilities.
