Position Summary:
Monmouth University is seeking applications for an Assistant Professor, Music Performance/Conducting in the Music and Theatre Arts department. This position is for the 2019-2020 academic year and is tenure track. We are seeking an outstanding candidate with a strong record of teaching and research/performance with a DMA degree in instrumental performance or orchestral conducting.

Responsibilities include building, managing and conducting one or more University instrumental ensemble, program directing the BA in music performance, and managing the applied music (private music lessons) program; teaching instrumental ensemble classes, teaching private lessons on an orchestral instrument (if applicable), instrumental conducting, or coursework in the candidate's particular specialty, such as orchestral literature; management of applied music program entails recruiting and managing adjunct instrumental and voice faculty, adjunct faculty for instrumental methods courses for music education majors, managing student applied music enrollment, juries, and senior recitals; program directing the BM in performance degree entails recruitment of new students, developing and overseeing program curriculum, and advising performance majors;

Developing a thriving instrumental music program at Monmouth University with a view toward forming and directing touring ensembles, engaging in joint programming with area professional ensembles, locating and placing students in relevant playing or management internships associated with the BA in performance degree, advising student research, student academic advisement, maintaining an active program of research and scholarly publication; participating in Department and University-wide committees, recruitment, and other service activities.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with Monmouth University's Grammy Affiliate program, our production facilities at Lakehouse Studios in Asbury Park, and in initiatives associated with MU's Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music.
