Position Summary and Qualifications

Mission or Goal of Unit
The mission of the Division of Transplant Surgery is to provide excellence in clinical care, the advancement of science through research, and the training of undergraduate and graduate students in our discipline. The Department fosters a level of professional activity essential to the graduate and to the professional growth of the faculty. The Division provides faculty with clinical and research experiences that prepare them for their professional careers. The Division is committed to enhance diversity among its faculty, staff, and students. Finally, faculty have a responsibility to provide service to their profession and to the university community.

Chief purpose of this position in support of above mission or goal
This position is a mid to senior level, collateral/term, non-tenure track faculty position in the area of Transplant Surgery as the program's Surgical Liver Medical Director. The faculty member should have primary clinical interests in the field of transplantation. The faculty member will also support the division with teaching responsibilities at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Position Responsibilities
1. Teaching
Faculty member will have teaching responsibilities in all areas of Transplant Surgery and applied anatomy and physiology.

2. Research Faculty member will assist in ongoing research and clinical trials as appropriate. He/she expected to develop interdisciplinary collaborations to enhance the research program in Transplant Surgery at VCU . In addition, he/she will mentor undergraduate and graduate students, as well as junior faculty.

3. Service
Faculty member will serve on departmental and hospital committees as assigned and participate in regional and national professional organizations.

4.Clinical
Faculty member clinical responsibility will be in the care of the transplant patients on the MCV campus of VCU . He/she will be responsible for the development of an active surgical practice in transplantation, with the support of the Division and Department's leadership.

5.Other (for instance administrative duties, etc.)
Faculty member will be primary surgical lead in the liver transplantation program which includes outreach, quality oversight, process improvement, program development (potentially living-donor liver program and pediatric liver program), etc.

Required Qualifications
•ABS Board Certified in General Surgery or equivalent

•ASTS Approved two year Transplantation Fellowship or equivalent

•Significant experience in liver transplantation

• Must be able to meet or obtain OPTN / UNOS requirements for primary liver surgeon

•Teaching residents and medical students

•National recognized clinical and/or basic science research program in Transplant Surgery with an established record of publication in high impact journals

•Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU is required

Preferred Qualifications
? Experience in living donor, split liver and pediatric liver transplantation

?Teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level in transplant or a related discipline

?Record of external funding or proposal submissions to obtain funding

?Innovation in solid organ transplant
