Specialist I/II, Library Technical

Auburn University Libraries seeks creative, dynamic, and results-oriented candidates for the position of Specialist, Library Technical in the Circulation Unit in the RBD Library. The person in this position reports to the Head of Circulation.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Include, but are not limited to, performing a variety of financial accounting functions in the Public Services Departments of Auburn University Libraries in consultation with financial service units in the Libraries and the University. The person in this position will develop a familiarity with Auburn University accounting and banner personnel systems as well as the Auburn University Libraries Voyager reporting system for managing financial records of library patrons involving library payments, fees and fines. The successful candidate will possess an ability to work well with a variety of clients such as: students, staff, faculty, administrators, regulatory, vendors and outside library users. Functioning as a resource to staff and library users on financial accounting policies and procedures, the successful candidate will process library fees and fines for library patrons and payments for Media & Digital Resources Laboratory (MDRL) as well as InfoQuest external library users and collect revenues for deposit to the Auburn University financial system. The successful candidate will maintain correspondence with library users and provide support by researching complex financial discrepancies, resolving customer service problems while ensuring that the financial processing functions and daily operations run accurately and smoothly. The successful candidate will maintain accurate accounting records, prepare accounting reconciliations and produce financial reports for internal and external use.

Responsibilities of this position also include hiring, training, and supervising student employees who support the performance of these financial duties; as well as providing circulation desk coverage; answering questions and instructing library users with use of the library system such as the catalog, databases and digital collections; assisting with documenting and analyzing circulation desk transactions; and assisting academic faculty and instructors with the use library collections in the Traditional and Textbook Reserve system for scheduled course work. The person in this position has responsibility for processing and maintaining the new book shelves and newspaper collection; administering ALLIES computer systems and functions and serving as Auburn University contact on the state-wide ALLIES resource sharing Network and registering external members of the public who wish to become new library users.

Minimum Qualifications
Entry into the candidate pool requires a high school diploma or equivalent plus four (4) years of experience managing and processing complex data or materials and familiarity with basic computer applications and designs. Employer will consider advanced degrees in lieu of experience. The salary range for Level I is $22,300 - $37,200.

Level II requires a high school diploma or equivalent plus six (3) years of experience managing and processing complex data or materials and familiarity with basic computer applications and designs. Employer will consider advanced degrees in lieu of experience. The salary range for Level II is $25,000 - $41,700.

The successful candidate must have a demonstrated commitment to high quality customer service and possess excellent organizational, time management, social, and communication skills; be willing to work as a team member while interacting with faculty, staff, and students and external users; take initiative to complete complex projects; and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills. Attention to detail and a familiarity with computer systems and applications used in the financial and accounting fields are required.
This job frequently requires standing, walking, reaching, balancing, hearing, handling objects with hands, and occasionally lifting up to 40 pounds.

Desired Qualifications
Associate's degree or higher from an accredited institution; experience working in an academic or public library setting; supervisory experience; and some experience with Web 2.0 and social media technologies.
