The Special Education Department at California State University, Dominguez Hills invites applications for a Tenure-Track position at the rank of Academic Year Assistant Professor/Associate Professor with the appointment starting in Fall 2019.

Department of Special Education, Teacher Education Division, College of Education
The Special Education Department is one of two programs within the Division of Teacher Education in the College of Education. The vision of the College is to maintain a model of collaborative urban educational excellence. In partnership with P-14 schools, we prepare deeply knowledgeable education professionals who are passionate about helping students reach their full potential and who make urban schools the places where children, families, and teachers thrive. Accredited by NCATE and CTC, the College is recognized for preparing teachers, administrators, counselors, and other specialists who work effectively with a variety of learners from diverse backgrounds, especially those living in poverty.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) by date of appointment in special education with an emphasis in birth through 5 years of age or a closely related field of study from an accredited university;
  • Eligible for or holds an Education Specialist Authorization in Early Childhood Special Education or its equivalent;
  • Experience as a teacher in public or private sector of special education working in infant, toddler, and/or preschool settings;
  • Demonstrated experience working with families of young children with special needs;
  • Understanding of and commitment to urban education and the preparation of special education candidates to meet the needs of culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse populations;
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in working with families who live within a collaborative multiethnic, multicultural, and multilingual environment;
  • Achieved proficiency in oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, including a willingness to work cooperatively with both students and colleagues;
  • Awareness of state preschool foundations and standards;
  • Evidence of effective teaching strategies in both traditional and technology mediated learning environments (e.g., hybrid or online teaching experience);
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with faculty, staff, other departments, students, and the public.

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with procuring and managing grants and other external funding to support research and/or operations of preschool programs.
  • Willingness to pursue a leadership role in the Special Education Division.
  • Experience inmentoring new teachers through the induction phase of teaching.
