Lab Associate


The College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP) at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for theposition of Lab Associate who will work 30 hours per week, (75% FTE, this position qualifies for UC benefits)

The primary mission of this college is to create a better cultural and design environment. The School of Design's role in advancing that mission is to prepare our approximately 700 undergraduate and graduate students to be responsible professionals and citizens in a complex and evolving world. We achieve this through a distinctive, rigorous, carefully sequenced curriculum that includes a substantial cooperative education program component dating back 100 years. This curricular model, expressed in classrooms, research labs, and professional offices all over the world, integrates practice and theory. It inspires interdisciplinary projects and builds solid corporate partnerships, and contributes to our strength as a leading design institution.

Responsibilitiesfor this position include:
  • Assist students and faculty where necessary in both the wood and metal departments.
  • Maintain a healthy and safe shop environment and run safety tutorials when needed.
  • Help to clean equipment and dust collection.
  • Identify and fix/replace tools and equipment.
  • Assist in overseeing the Co-op and work/study students and any lab associates.
  • Aid and perform in shop initiated tasks.
  • Identify surplus and shortages of consumables throughout the metal and wood areas and suggest purchases.
  • Advise and report to the shop manager.


Minimum Qualifications

A candidate must hold an Associate's degree with one (1) year experience; -OR- three (3) years experience. Experience must be in an area of technical specialty.

Position Physical Requirements
  • Frequent standing and/or sitting, lifting items at or around 40lbs
  • Performing technical skill-based demonstrations for the class

This position will be a professional position paid at an hourly rate.
