Position Summary
This is a full-time instructional position in the Exercise Science Department at the Portland Community College Sylvania Campus. This position also includes instruction in the Physical Education Department at the same campus. Courses to be instructed include lecture, lab, and activity classes in Exercise Science and Physical Education. The instruction schedule will be Monday through Friday daytime, but could include some early morning and/or evening classes. Experience teaching exercise science lecture and lab topics (anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, biomechanics, fitness assessment, exercise prescription) and physical education courses is preferred. Current certifications in CPR, AED and First Aid are strongly encouraged.

This position is one of five full time positions in our collective EXS and PE departments. We have a strong and collaborative team. We work closely with administration, support staff, and part-time instructors to deliver a quality educational experience for our students. We are looking for a passionate leader in exercise science, fitness, and physical education to contribute to and strengthen our team.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

  • Master's degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Sports Psychology, Sports Fitness, Sports Science, Outdoor Recreation Leadership, Human Performance, Kinesiology, or Human Physiology
  • Three years (3) experience in the industry.
    OR

  • Master's degree in any field plus Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Sports Psychology, Sports Fitness, Sports Science, Outdoor Recreation Leadership, Human Performance, Kinesiology, or Human Physiology
  • Three years (3) experience in the industry.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in PE, EXS, Exercise Physiology, Sports Fitness, Human Performance, Kinesiology or Human Physiology
  • At least 3 years of recent experience teaching adults in PE or fitness related classes
  • Ability to teach at least one of the listed Professional Activities classes (Group Fitness, Weight Training, Mind-Body, Team Sports, Special Populations or Aquatics
  • Experience teaching theoretical lecture classes in one or more of the following: EXS, kinesiology, biomechanics, fitness promotion, fitness testing and prescription, sports nutrition, fitness for special populations, basic anatomy and physiology for fitness instructors.
  • Experience teaching and supervising students in practical laboratory settings. This should include at least one or more of the following topics: anatomy, kinesiology, fitness testing, body composition, fitness prescription, metabolic cart/VO2max testing, ECG and graded exercise testing (GXT).

    Starting Salary Expectations
    Initial Salary Placement up to Step 3 ($56,274) will be based on related experience, per PCC's collective bargaining agreement.

  • Instructors shall have earned required academic credentials at a regionally accredited US institution or a foreign institution having the equivalent of regional accreditation. Instructors with credentials from other countries will have their transcripts evaluated by agencies that have good standing with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services to establish fulfillment of this standard.     These positions are included in the bargaining agreement between Portland Community College and the Portland Community College Faculty Federation Employees.
