The Department of Child Development at California State University Dominguez Hills invites applications for a Tenured Associate or Full Professor who will serve as the Department Chair with the appointment starting in Fall 2019.

Department of Child Development
The Child Development Department resides in the College of Health, Human Services and Nursing. We have over 700 undergraduate majors from diverse age, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds. Our students seek careers working with children and families. We are integrated into our local community through our fieldwork courses, and we emphasis knowledge, social responsibility, and professional ethics in our curriculum.
Mission
The Child Development program focuses on the study of individual development from conception through adolescence within a plurality of contexts. Students are provided with fundamental knowledge of theoretical and methodological concepts, developmental processes, and current issues in the field. We believe that child development professionals play an important role in society with a significant impact on children. To ensure that our students graduate as well prepared professionals, our program rests on three fundamental elements of knowledge, skills, and professionalism.

The Position
We are seeking a seasoned educator, researcher, and collaborator who has the skills and experience to lead a department strongly committed to academic excellence, community integration, and student success. We want a dynamic, positive, and contributive colleague with a passion for teaching, a history of fostering student success, and a commitment to shared governance. The successful applicant will have a demonstrated record of successful teaching and working with a highly diverse student body. S/he should possess excellent communication skills, initiative, and resourcefulness and demonstrate a potential to provide leadership to the department and mentor junior colleagues.
The ideal candidate would have a program of research with an applied developmental perspective on one or more of the following topics:
- child and family advocacy/policy
- prevention/intervention in high risk contexts affecting children and youth
- early childhood education
Responsibilities
- Teaching and advising undergraduates and mentoring undergraduate research and scholarship.
- Conducting scholarship in line with the mission of the department, college, and university.
- Providing leadership and service to the department, college, university, and the profession.
- As the Department Chair, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing all department business and mentoring department faculty, staff and students. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Promote and monitor undergraduate recruitment and retention.
- Lead and work collaboratively with faculty on curriculum development and program development/redesign.
- Evaluate full-time faculty for promotion, post-tenure review, tenure, and pre-tenure renewal contracts.
- Recruit, supervise, and conduct annual performance reviews for part-time faculty and staff.
- Lead the evaluation of program and student leaning outcomes.
- Foster the professional development of faculty, staff, and students
- Represent and advocate for faculty, staff, and student interests to administrators, other departments on campus, and outside individuals and agencies.
- Perform administrative duties of the department such as scheduling, overseeing department records, supervising staff, and holding faculty and staff meetings.

CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
