Job Description:


Basic Function and Responsibility:

Under administrative supervision of the Dean of Student Success, the manager will provide vision, strategic direction, and accountability for developing first-year experience programs and academic advising services that support students' academic transitions and success in college, in addition to supporting the College's institutional initiatives. Specifically, increase awareness of and develop appropriate assessment tools to measure student engagement and learning outcomes for transition programs and resources. The manager will work collaboratively with other units to develop, implement, and monitor plans for improving persistence rates and time-to-degree that is informed by best practices.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supervise professional staff and student employees to ensure the delivery of effective daily operations and programmatic efforts that directly impact student persistence, seamless transitions, and overall student success.
  • Provide oversight to departmental initiatives and programs, including, but not limited to, new student orientation, parent and family orientation, online orientation, welcome weeks, peer mentoring, and marketing of first year experience programs.
  • Provide leadership in maintaining a culture of developmental advising and educational planning, transition and completion advising, degree completion and transfer support programs, and marketing of advising programs.
  • Develop and utilize data-driven practices to assess learning outcomes and student engagement associated with departmental programs. Enhance achievement of strategic goals and outcomes by compiling, analyzing, and utilizing data.
  • Manage and market college-wide early alert intervention program. Coordinate with academic and student affairs areas to provide ongoing training and support to faculty and staff utilizing program.
  • Collaborate with academic deans, chairs, and coordinators in the development of advisor trainings, communications, and resources. Ensure appropriate advising support for students in specialized programs.
  • Monitor and disseminate information impacting students' advising, educational planning, and transferring processes (e.g. course and degree requirement changes, IAI updates, articulation agreements, institution-specific transfer stipulations, and alike).
  • Carry out procedures related to implementation of policies and academic sanctions status of students. Troubleshoot, investigate and/or respond to student issues, concerns and complaints as referred by staff.
  • Develop and monitor all budgets associated with areas of responsibility. Maintain inventory and recommend purchase of advising resources.
  • Prepare, analyze data, and write institutional, regional, and state accreditation and agency reports and assist in collection and analysis of student usage and satisfaction data.
  • Facilitate regular staff meetings and provide oversight for departmental working groups. Participate in Student Success area initiatives.
  • Participate in leadership team meetings for the Student Success and Enrollment Center areas. Develop content and coordinate cross training related to departmental programs for Enrollment Center team.|
  • Serve on appropriate college committees such as the student success team, enrollment center integration team, and other persistence-related groups.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements:


Qualifications and Working Conditions:

  • Master's degree required, preferably in college student personnel, higher education administration, counseling, education, or related field.
  • Three years of advising, orientation, first year experience, or student affairs experience is required, preferably in a higher education setting.
  • Two years of supervisory experience preferred, preferably in a higher education setting. Demonstrated ability to train, motivate, mentor, and evaluate staff.
  • A high level of interpersonal and communication skills are required. Must be able to explain policies and communicate with others in situations requiring sensitivity and tact.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills. Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, prioritize, and effectively execute multiple initiatives, programs, and events and meet established deadlines.
  • Ability to interact professionally and tactfully with people of different levels of education, cultural backgrounds, and life experiences, and to exhibit an adequate level of respect to fellow employees and the College community at large.
  • Ability to analyze situations, identify solutions, present recommendations, and anticipate issues and consequences of decisions and actions.
  • Computer competence, including MS office suite, database programs, and additional college supported software used for student advisement.
  • Ability to work flexible hours at both the Skokie and Des Plaines campuses including some evening hours consistent with student need.

Additional Information:


Under administrative supervision of the Dean of Student Success, the manager will provide vision, strategic direction, and accountability for developing first-year experience programs and academic advising services (through the Office of Advising, Transitions, and Student Success) that support students' academic transitions and success in college, in addition to supporting the College's institutional initiatives.

Supervision Received:

Administrative supervision is received from the Dean of Student Success.

Supervision Exercised:

General supervision is exercised over 13 professional staff members, including coordinators, advisors, as well as student employees.

Physical Demands:

Light lifting up to 10 lbs and light carrying up to 10 lbs. Ability to reach above shoulder. Periods of time spent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending and stooping. Mobility to move from building to building on-campus and to visit off-campus entities. Work is performed in a general office environment and sedentary in nature. Little or no exposure to adverse working conditions.

HOURS: Monday through Friday 8:30 am - 5:15 pm with some evening hours consistent with student needs.

SALARY: $71,787
