Position Summary: The Accommodation Specialist provides support to faculty, staff, and students with disabilities in the provision of classroom and lab accommodations to improve access to coursework material, assists with in-class note taking services, and arranges services for students from the deaf and hard-of-hearing community.


Duties and Responsibilities: Attend individual student classes and labs to assist in the provision of accommodations to improve access to lecture and coursework material, as needed per semester. Assist faculty and students in setting up in-class note taking services. Train students with disabilities in the use of appropriate assistive technologies to meet individual access needs related to note taking services, and manage related equipment loans and returns. Schedule sign language and remote captioning services with approved outside vendors, as needed per semester. Assist with the acquisition of alternative format textbooks and the creation of accessible materials, as needed. Assist with Disability Services testing operations, including scheduling, obtaining, proctoring and returning tests, communicating with faculty, and maintaining test security. Perform other related duties, as assigned.

Required Qualifications: Associate's degree and one year of work experience in an education, business, or social services environment. Prior experience working with individuals with disabilities.

Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience in higher education. Working knowledge of American Sign Language.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Work Characteristics: Strong written and oral communication skills. Fine motor skills adequate for laboratory work. Computer proficiency and a willingness to learn new technologies. Ability to prioritize and multi-task. Ability to work as part of a team.

Pay Rate: 15,230.00 - 19,040.00 annual salary depending on experience
