Specialist II, Classification & Compensation (Compensation Analyst)

As a member of the University Human Resources team, the Compensation Analyst plays a key role in evaluating and implementing Auburn University's compensation program, providing excellent customer support, and striving for continuous improvement. The successful candidate will juggle multiple tasks, make sound business decisions, influence business leaders, manage details, and deliver results throughout the organization. Typical duties include:

* Conducts job classification studies and makes recommendations by performing on-site job analyses, internal point-factor job evaluations, external market pricing comparisons, and writing accurate job and position descriptions.
* Works closely with Administrators/Managers on producing accurate job descriptions, makes salary recommendations for reclassifications, and collaborates with Employment Services for salary recommendations for new hires, aligning pay with competitive practices.
* Develops recommendations regarding FLSA exemptions. Reviews existing and proposed statutory requirements governing compensation administration and develops appropriate recommendations. Ensures integrity of compensation data in AU's Enterprise System.
* Advises internal constituents on personnel issues and decisions regarding compensation administration practices and procedures related to employees' pay levels and opportunities.
* Communicates professionally, confidently, and authentically across campus.
* Uses strong communication and analytical skills to drive an understanding of Auburn's compensation program, pay practices, and administration.
* Participates in national, regional, and local salary surveys by gathering, assessing, and quantifying employee salary data by ensuring accurate job and level match. Develops and maintains compensation databases.
* Performs ad-hoc analyses and salary planning to continuously improve compensation programs and processes.
* Participates in the planning and administration of the annual salary increase program and other compensation administration programs.
* Applies critical, creative, and practical thinking skills in the analysis and resolution of a wide variety of people-talent related issues.

Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Human Resources, Management, Business Administration, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Statistics or a related field and 2 years' directly relevant experience in classification and/or compensation administration.

This position also requires the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

* Understanding of compensation systems and technologies, benchmarking, market data, job analysis and evaluation, position descriptions, and compensation planning.
* Knowledge of principles and practices regarding the development of job and position descriptions including, but not limited to, sentence structure, format, appropriate identification of skill level, and the development of appropriate and competitive minimum qualifications.
* Knowledge of and proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Working knowledge of maintaining Access databases.
* Knowledge and full proficiency within Excel in the usage of pivot tables, vlookup functions, filter, sort, conditional formatting, graphs and charts, and other advanced formula usage in order to analyze data.
* Awareness of statistical sampling and survey methodologies. Ability to gather and analyze statistical data, generate meaningful reports, and the ability to see beyond the numbers to drive sound decision making.
* Current knowledge of Human Resources related state and federal regulations, laws, and acts to include FLSA, EEOC, OFCCP, IRS guidelines regarding employment, and the ability to maintain currency.
* Negotiation skills and the ability to influence others without formal authority.
* Commitment to the continuous learning of generally accepted compensation principles and practices, as well as, related University policies and procedures.
* Proven organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and work well in an environment with competing demands.
* Desire to pursue continuing education to become a Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) certification.

Dependent upon one's education, experience, affiliations, and credentials, the successful candidate's salary will be positioned within the following salary grade and range:

Grade 32 - $35,000 - $58,400
