Assistant Professor, Musical Theater Performance (Tenure Track)

The Syracuse University Department of Drama (Ralph Zito, Professor and Chair) seeks to hire an Assistant Professor of Musical Theater Performance for a tenure-track position beginning in Fall 2019. The Department offers conservatory-style training and an unparalleled level of integration with a professional theater: Syracuse Stage, the leading professional theater company of central New York, and is consistently ranked among the top programs in the country. The position will teach all levels of musical theater performance and will also direct productions for the department. Additional expertise in related areas (particularly, diverse genres and styles as applied to musical theater) is desirable. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability and willingness to collaborate with Musical Theater Program faculty in the development of a curriculum that builds on a strong existing foundation and responds effectively to the artistic needs of an ever-changing profession. The department is interested in candidates whose teaching, creative activity, and/or professional experience will contribute to the understanding of diversity and equity, or which addresses questions of interest to historically under-represented or underserved communities. Continued professional creative work and/or research, as well as service and committee work for the Department, the College of Visual and Performing Arts, and the University is expected.
