Graduate Assistant, Institute for Policy Research (IPR) 1

The University of Cincinnati's Institute for Policy Research (IPR) is seeking a graduate research assistant (GRA) for 20 hours a week to assist on research projects. This position is for the academic school year. The IPR is an interdisciplinary, public policy research organization at UC and conducts a wide variety of applied research projects.

Responsibilities include assisting senior IPR researchers on research projects. Research responsibilities include maintaining and analyzing project data bases, conducting literature searches and preparing literature abstracts, assisting in analysis of survey data and a longitudinal data base using SPSS, assisting the IPR researcher in writing research results, preparing articles and presentation materials. The GRA will be an integral part of the research project team. The GRA will also be responsible for managing, organizing and scheduling project activities.

It is a requirement that the candidate have demonstrated experience using SPSS in either: (1) a minimum of two research courses -or-(2) a paid/unpaid position where SPSS was used to analyze data as part of a research project.

The ideal candidate will meet all the following qualifications:
  • Knowledge of social science research methods is required.
  • Coursework or experience in research design and/or social/behavioral research data analysis.
  • Coursework or experience in one or more of the following: survey research, public policy research and social/behavioral research.
  • Experience with computers and office productivity software (especially MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint) is required.
  • Must have good communication skills, good organization skills, ability to coordinate project activities and be detail-oriented.
  • Must display good interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a team and independently.
