Dean of the Lindner College of Business

The Carl H. Lindner College of Business (LCB) at the University of Cincinnati invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean, seeking an individual who can build the next chapter in the 110-year history of LCB, and foster the preeminence and momentum of this celebrated College at a time when it is growing in size and reputation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Dean is responsible for overseeing all strategic, scholarly, academic, and operational aspects of the Lindner College of Business, including managing undergraduate and graduate programs; developing and promoting high-impact scholarly research; securing and monitoring the College's financial resources (including developing new educational programs, corporate, governmental, and inter-collegiate partnerships, and private giving); monitoring performance, including program reviews (e.g., AACSB accreditation) and faculty/staff development (e.g., tenure and promotion); fostering continuous improvement; and managing university and governmental compliance requirements.

The Dean reports to the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs & Provost, with responsibility for implementing the policies and procedures developed by the Board of Trustees and the administrative leadership of the campus and the University.

More specifically, the Dean will:
  • Conceptualize and articulate, in collaboration with LCB faculty and staff and University leadership, an ambitious vision of the College's future that will inspire and motivate faculty, staff, and students within the framework of the University Next Lives Here strategic plan; equally important, the Dean will enlist the support of essential constituencies and oversee effective implementation of a strategic plan to realize that vision that includes the monitoring of a set of well-defined goals;
  • Provide leadership and guidance in fulfilling the LCB mission as a public, urban college, including fostering a diverse, inclusive and collaborative environment that encourages and respects all constituents;
  • Ensure that superior academic programs are delivered by dedicated faculty; by attracting and retaining faculty and staff of the highest caliber, and providing staff and faculty long-term career incentives in a diverse environment conducive to collaboration, professional development, and support of our student population;
  • Build external relationships at the regional, national, and international levels, engaging in activities that raise private support (building on LCB's current endowment) and the stature of LCB;
  • Manage the effective and accountable use of operating budgets (approximately $36.6 million) and endowment income (approximately $5.7 million).


REQUIREMENTS

While it is expected that the Dean will possess a distinguished scholarly academic record, the committee will also consider business-oriented leadership accomplishments that could be translated into innovative leadership of the College. The Dean will demonstrate commitment to outstanding teaching, research, and service. The Dean will demonstrate:
  • Qualifications as an accomplished scholar and noted contributor to the business world that satisfy the requirements for the rank of tenured full professor in an LCB academic unit;
  • Proven business community involvement;
  • Proven fundraising strengths;
  • Successful administrative and budgetary/financial experience, preferably at a major research institution;
  • Rigorous standards of professional achievement and ethical behavior;
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills;
  • A record of promoting diversity and inclusiveness;
  • An entrepreneurial orientation combined with boldness, imagination and abundant energy;
  • Strong understanding of the challenges and issues facing higher education;
  • A firm grasp of the opportunities and advantages of the University's urban setting;
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to the importance of LCB global initiatives;
  • A management style that reflects integrity, compassion, collaboration, intellectual curiosity, and decisiveness
