CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

The University of Delaware (UD) in Newark and the Wilmington Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center (WVAMC) signed an affiliation agreement to formalize a collaboration between the two institutions. The two institutions established the partnership for the purpose of enhancing clinical services through increased use of research-informed, evidence-based practices, educating future providers, and collaborating on research to promote cutting edge innovations for Veterans' healthcare and clinical activities related to acute and chronic physical medicine and rehabilitation. While UD has been involved in patient-care research efforts for many years, the Wilmington VAMC seeks to further grow its portfolio in partnership with UD faculty and the University's existing and emerging research, education and patient care programs.

Duties will include overseeing the activities of an elite group of research advancement experts working to dramatically enhance the UD-WVAMC collaboration by obtaining, directing and contributing to major externally funded, patient care, research and research partnerships. This position requires a high order of leadership and analytical ability combined with a comprehensive knowledge of (1) research-related practices and (2) the methods used to gather, analyze, and evaluate information. Requires a Doctoral degree and 10 years' job experience leading research teams and forming collaborative research efforts related to patient care and/or service systems.

The incumbent will report to the University of Delaware, Associate Vice President for Research.

THIS POSITION IS SUPPORTED BY EXTERNAL FUNDING. Notice of non-renewal is not required. The appointment is for one year with renewal possible (annually for a maximum of three years), contingent upon, funding, performance and the ability to expand independent responsibilities should additional funding to support this position become available.
