ASSISTANT DEAN



This position serves as a key liaison with students and faculty in the Undergraduate Program at the Peter J. Tobin College of Business. The Assistant Dean is responsible for interfacing and collaborating with the faculty and other school and university administrators on curriculum implementation and student academic advising, including such tasks as advising on the business core curriculum and scheduling electives for specific majors. This person will meet with faculty; work as a team member with the other staff in the Undergraduate Program Office; serve on committees; and assist the Associate Dean of Academic Programs with the planning and implementation of continuous improvement activities, an improved advising model, and a strategic plan for the Undergraduate Program Office. The Asst. Dean will also work with faculty, students, and staff to assist with the coordination of case competitions, co-curricular initiatives, career-centered activities, and the overall student advising process. In addition, the new Asst. Dean will collaborate with the Director of the Career Services Center, the Admissions Office, and Department Chairs on new programs.

The Assistant Dean is one of six direct reports to the Associate Dean of Academic Programs. This position works with the other staff members as a team; collaborates with faculty on projects; and fills in for the Associate Dean at meetings and events when s/he is not available. The Assistant Dean is expected to enhance the productivity of the Undergraduate Advising Office team; facilitate a student-focused environment in the Office; oversee the input, tabulation, and reporting of Assurance of Learning (AoL) results for undergraduate courses; advise students on professional exams; write reports on results of professional exams; and complete data-intensive accreditation reports for Tobin. Since majors at the Tobin College of Business include accounting and business analytics, a MS is required, and an MBA or MS in accounting is preferred with evidence of strong technical/computer skills. This position engages in a wide range of interactions, including collaboration with the following: (a) students, through advising and through interaction with student organizations, preparation of recommendations, etc.; (b) members of the office staff ; (c) faculty and administrators within the Tobin College of Business; (d) faculty and administrators across the university through committee engagements and projects; and (e) external individuals, such as parents and alumni. Thus, the ideal candidate will possess strong written, verbal and negotiation skills, with strong references.

A masters degree is required, and an MBA or MS in an analytical field is preferred with evidence of strong technical/computer skills. Applicants should have 3-5 years of related experience. This position engages in a wide range of interactions, including collaboration with the following: (a) students and student organizations; (b) members of the office staff; (c) faculty and administrators within the Tobin College of Business; (d) faculty and administrators across the university through committee engagement s and projects; and (e) external individuals, such as parents and alumni. Thus, the ideal candidate will possess strong written, verbal and negotiation skills, with strong references.
