Director, Master of Occupational Therapy Program

Messiah College, in partnership with the national search firm Scott Healy & Associates, invites applications and nominations for the full-time Director of the developing Master of Occupational Therapy Program (MOT). As the director, you will be responsible for attaining and maintaining ACOTE accreditation. The director will pursue academic excellence within the program by providing program leadership, promoting the program and enhancing its visibility, assisting with recruiting and retaining students, and managing the day-to-day logistics of the program. This is a 12-month core faculty administrative position that will allow for limited teaching in the program.

The ideal candidate should have/be:

  • An earned terminal degree is required, including an OTD (an earned academic terminal degree is preferred)
  • A credentialed and licensed occupational therapist and eligible for licensure in Pennsylvania
  • 8 years of experience in the field of occupational therapy including clinical practice as an occupational therapist
  • Experience preparing for, obtaining and maintaining ACOTE accreditation
  • Administrative experience (including program planning and implementation, personnel management, evaluation and budgeting)
  • A strong record of scholarship and distinguished history of teaching and service
  • 3 years of experience in a full-time academic appointment with teaching responsibilities at the post-baccalaureate level

 

The Program:

Messiah College is developing an entry-level Master of Occupational Therapy Program (MOT). The College designed the program to meet accreditation standards established by ACOTE. The mission of the occupational therapy program is to prepare compassionate, ethical and competent occupational therapy practitioners, equipped to serve and lead as agents of change in a global society.

 

Messiah College applied for accreditation and was granted Candidacy Status (December 2016) by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). The College has enrolled its first two cohorts of students (32 in Cohort 1 and 28 in Cohort 2). ACOTE has an on-site evaluation scheduled for March 2019 and there is college-wide support for the program. Currently there are four fulltime faculty members in addition to additional adjuncts and part-time faculty members.

Messiah College is a Christian college of the liberal and applied arts and sciences and has a student body of over 2,700 undergraduate students including 13.7% under-represented and 4.4% international students from 30 countries and over 600 graduate students including 15.3% of students from under-represented populations.
