Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position will include: (1) Teaching any of the required undergraduate courses in our Mathematics program, as well as any of the undergraduate courses in our Computer Science program on the Staten Island campus (see pages 73-76 in https://www.stjohns.edu/academics/schools-and-colleges/bulletins/undergraduate-bulletin ); (2) Producing high quality research in Mathematics or Theoretical Computer Science; (3) Advising (approximately 40) students in our Computer Science program on Staten Island; and (4) Participating in the development of our Master's Program in "Applied and Computational Mathematics" (see https://www.stjohns.edu/academics/schools-and-colleges/st-johns-college-liberal-arts-and-sciences/programs-and-majors/applied-and-computational-mathematics-master-arts ).

The normal teaching load at St. John's is 9 credits per week (3 courses) each semester. Each year faculty are able to apply for a reduction in their teaching load to 6 credits per week (2 courses) for the purpose of intensive research and scholarship.



Qualifications

Applicants should possess a PhD in Mathematics or Computer Science. Preference will be given to candidates with evidence of teaching experience and a strong research program in Mathematics or Theoretical Computer Science. High quality teaching and research are essential for obtaining tenure in our department.
