Job Description
Peer Mentors offer guidance and support in academic, personal, and service-oriented development by creating high-impact educational experiences and fostering a learning environment focused on collaboration and achievement. Peer Academic Leaders serve as mentors, supporters, and coaches to optimize student self-awareness, academic involvement, and knowledge of campus resources in and beyond classroom. As a mentor, the PAL will facilitate the development of mentees' self-awareness as a means of both personal and academic success. Peer Academic Leaders are expected to participate in mentoring activities throughout the spring semester that will assist students with a successful academic, social, and personal transition into the university setting.

Required Qualifications
Enrolled as a degree seeking student at Florida Gulf Coast University at the time of hire and throughout the appointment.
Must have a minimum GPA 2.5 and be in good conduct standing with the University.
The selected Peer Academic Leaders will be assigned to an SLS 1501 - Effective Learning course to enrich the academic performance of mentees in and beyond the classroom.

Preferred Qualifications
Completion of at least 24 credit hours of FGCU course work.

Job Duties

Essential Job Duties
As a part of the Center for Academic Achievement ( CAA ) Peer Academic Leader ( PAL ) Program you will be expected to fulfill the following roles:
• Attend all training and team meetings prior to the fall term and throughout the academic year. Attendance at a mentor training session is mandatory.
• Create opportunities for mentees to participate in service learning, campus life, social events, and other activities as assigned.
• Develop a professional relationship with a mentees and instructors.
• Assist mentees with academic and co-curricular goal planning and follow-through.
• Assist mentees with utilizing Canvas, Degree Works, Eagle Collegiate Link, Eagle Career Link, and Eagle Mail.
• Introduce mentees to campus resources (i.e., faculty, staff, and academic and personal support offices).
• Facilitate outside the classroom meetings with students in the assigned Effective Learning course.
• Serve as a knowledgeable referral agent.

Other Duties
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
