Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Director of Advancement Marketing serves as the lead marketer for all development and alumni engagement initiatives campus-wide, including Fearless Ideas: The Campaign for Maryland.

The Director will create integrated plans to promote philanthropic giving, including all campaign materials and strategies. Working with colleagues in donor relations, development, and other areas of university relations, the Director will work to develop an overarching plan and bring to bear all the expertise of Strategic Communications units to leverage campaign messaging, media opportunities, events, gift announcements, building dedications/openings, development publications, branding messages and alumni communications-all to increase awareness of, and participation in, the campaign and its role in advancing the university.

The Director is responsible for coordinating all marketing tactics and strategies for the Alumni Association to include advertising, visual design, web and new media, communications, publications, direct mail, and copywriting.

The Director will supervise three marketing professionals, and the unit is expected to grow as the campaign progresses. The Director will use project management tools to assign responsibilities, manage deadlines, complete tasks and track results. Finally, the Director will prepare marketing plans and reports of outcomes for review by university leaders.

The Director will manage budget and reporting for all of the above.

As part of the Office of Strategic Communications, the Director will serve as part of a collaborative team to protect and enhance the brand and reputation of the university.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education (include licenses, certifications, etc.):
Bachelor's Degree in communications, business (marketing), or other related field required.

Experience:
A minimum of seven years of experience in marketing, public relations, advancement communications at a progressively responsible level.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential.
