Assistant Director for Multicultural Affairs- Staten Island Campus

Assistant Director of Multicultural Affairs - Staten Island

Primary Function: Reporting to the Executive Director of Multicultural Affairs, the Assistant Director will have primary responsibility for the development and implementation of social justice programming, cultural and identity based student services, management of the day to day inclusivity programming and support for the Student Success Center, coordinate an intergroup dialogue program, deliver trainings to students and support University diversity, equity and inclusivity initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and coordinate cultural and identify based student discussion groups;
  • Supervise SI Diversity Peer Educators;
  • Coordinate SI Intergroup Dialogue Program;
  • Deliver social justice training to student groups as well as SI staff;
  • Serve on the University's bias response team;
  • Develop and implement skills-based programs, workshops, events and activities that will advance the University's commitment to inclusivity;
  • Collaborate with Office of Multicultural Affairs - Queens to design and implement cultural heritage celebrations on Staten Island, including Latin Heritage Month, Black History Month, Asian Pacific Heritage Month;
  • Develop strategies to help historically underrepresented students' campus engagement with concentration on program development, campus involvement, leadership development and career development;
  • Assist the Executive Director in the strategic planning and assessment of SI student programs and success of historically underrepresented students;
  • Collaborate with Student Affairs and other University departments to develop cultural and global education opportunities;
  • Assist and perform other duties as needed.


Requirements:

Master's degree required and a minimum of two years' progressive administrative experience in peer mentoring programing and social justice programming; knowledge of leadership development strategies tailored to students from historically underrepresented backgrounds; experience with delivering social justice training; experience with intergroup dialogue programming; strong awareness of current social justice issues; excellent written and oral communication skills. Must have the flexibility to work evenings and weekends.

Additional desired skills:

Project management, grant writing and workshop presentation skills.
