With this position, we seek to strengthen the Department of Art’s newly formed area of Sculpture and Ceramics with a colleague who brings a broad perspective informed by active research on contemporary art making with competency that includes traditional and digital 3D art technologies. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical and theoretical foundation, as well as an expansive approach that embraces the changing role of contemporary art and considers its role in a global society. We seek an energetic colleague with a strong professional record and the ability to teach across the curriculum, working with non-majors, BA, BFA, and MFA students.

• Ability to teach and provide leadership in the area of Sculpture and Ceramics

Preferred:
• More than one year full-time teaching experience from the introductory through graduate level
• Experience teaching at a Research 1 institution
• Demonstrated experience in incorporating emerging digital technologies into traditional media

**Department of Art Policy Statement
In lieu of an MFA, the following could be considered in determining professional recognition and experience:
1)  Advanced studies at a foreign school that does not award MFA degrees
2)  Extended advanced study with recognized artists in the field
3)  Professional achievement that would provide a depth of knowledge of the field comparable to an MFA
4)  Evaluation by leaders in the field attesting that because of exhibition record and other professional achievement, that person was the equal of an MFA

In evaluating these equivalencies, it should be kept in mind that depth of participation in the field, not simply time in residence, is being considered.

Candidates will be evaluated according to:
a) overall quality of their creative work and recognition in their field
b) relevance of their creative practice to the department's academic priorities and fields of inquiry
c) evidence of commitment to teaching and skills as a teacher
d) strength of recommendations

Courses focus on the conceptual and material understanding of creative practice and also on the significance of art within the broader social and historical contexts in which it is made. We see ourselves as a laboratory in which students from all disciplines can engage with the unique skills and modes of thinking that art-making demands. The immediacy of making and the risks of experimentation combined with necessary critical thinking, collaboration, and problem solving produce a transformative learning experience that parallels innovation in any field.

Our faculty are all practicing artists with accomplished and active exhibition careers, and their passion for teaching and research creates a rigorous and challenging environment for students.

Our urban location provides students access to one of the most vibrant and diverse arts communities in the nation, and internship and career opportunities across a wide spectrum of arts-related professions. Internationally renowned institutions such as the Weisman Art Museum, Walker Art Center, and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and numerous local galleries provide inspiration, resources, and exhibition opportunities.

After graduation, our students embark upon a wide variety of careers in studio practice, teaching, nonprofit arts organizations, and creative services. We are continually expanding collaborations with other academic departments, community, and international partners to provide students with pathways to professional opportunities in the arts and beyond.
