Digital Strategies Manager

The National Communication Association (NCA) seeks a dynamic and collaborative individual to help develop and execute an expanded digital communications strategy designed to promote the scholarly discipline of Communication. NCA serves the scholars, teachers, and practitioners who are its members by enabling and supporting their professional interests in research and teaching.  Dedicated to fostering and promoting free and ethical communication, NCA promotes the widespread appreciation of the importance of communication in public and private life, the application of competent communication to improve the quality of human life and relationships, and the use of knowledge about communication to solve human problems. Reporting Structure:  The Digital Strategies Manager reports to the Director of External Affairs and Publications.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage organizational website
    • Ensure structural and organizational integrity of the website
    • Build continuity of association’s digital presence
    • Maintain and update content on website
    • Apply emerging web technology and functionality to website as necessary
    • Assure that web-based information is properly archived
    • Provide recommendations and support for all association departments that use the website
    • Create, edit, and maintain AMS webpages used for member transactions
    • Manage relationship with website design vendor
  • Manage NCA’s Social Media Strategy from a technology and dissemination perspective:
    • Create, implement, and track effective online strategies to reach and inform NCA’s internal and external audiences
    • Build continuity of association’s social media presence
    • Stay up-to-date on emerging trends and identify and implement creative use of variety of social media outlets
    • Train staff on social media procedures and best practices
  • Manage email strategy from a technology and dissemination perspective:
    • Identify and implement new technologies for e-newsletter dissemination
    • Serve as production editor, laying out and disseminating each newsletter; optimize and track distribution
    • Create and maintain email templates for e-newsletters, announcements, and a variety of other association email communications
    • Manage relationship with email marketing vendor
    • Train staff on email procedures and best practices
  • Act as Listserv administrator and share management of daily CRTNET listservs
  • Define and track digital (social media, website, e-newsletters, media coverage) analytics and create periodic reports that can inform and guide NCA’s programmatic priorities and the organization’s communication strategies and tactics
  • Create and/or edit graphics and videos for digital use
  • Respond to a variety of relevant requests for assistance from NCA members
  • Foster and model civil discourse and open and ethical communication
  • Manage other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of External Affairs and Publications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BA or advanced degree in a related field
  • Extensive experience with content management systems
  • Experience with association management systems
  • Experience with email marketing platforms
  • Strong facility with HTML and CSS
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud suite of applications
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics other analytics tools and report production
  • Listserv management experience
  • Knowledge of social media, website, and email marketing best practices
  • General knowledge of IT practices
  • Knowledge of national and international regulations regarding websites and email marketing
  • Experience with live streaming (from technical and equipment perspective)
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
