Senior Director of Development, Lerner College of Business and Economics

The University of Delaware is currently engaged in its most ambitious comprehensive capital campaign in its history. Aiming to raise $750 million by June 30, 2020, we have over $600 million currently counted towards the Campaign. The Office of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) is seeking a seasoned and entrepreneurial development professional who will serve as the Lerner College of Business and Economics lead principal and major gift officer. The Senior Director of Development will continue to grow our individual donor base and will help fuel future strategic plans beyond the Campaign.

The Senior Director of Development works in partnership with the Dean in securing individual major gifts of $100,000 in support of the College's strategic goals and will manage a team of three (two major gift officers and an administrative assistant). The preferred candidate will have significant individual major gift fundraising experience as well as demonstrated management success in leading development teams.

Major campaign focal points for Lerner College include enhancing support for students through our Executive Mentor Scholars Program, Wall Street & Madison Avenue Prep and Referral Programs, the Women's Leadership Initiative, and the Lerner Diversity Council. Faculty fellowships and endowed professorships will ensure that Lerner College can recruit and retain the best faculty in the country. In addition, programmatic support has served as the catalyst for enhancements to the Geltzeiler Trading Center and the Center for Economic Education and Entrepreneurship.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES:

• Identifies, cultivates and solicits individual prospects for the College, with a focus on gifts of $100,000 or more.

• Responsible for managing team's performance, assessing needs and recommending additional resources as necessary.

• Engages the Dean, administrators, and faculty in the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of major gift prospects.

• Plans, recommends, and carries out appropriate solicitation strategies; builds relationships with and guides individual faculty members when needed within this context.

• Works closely with the dean, and the dean's office, on the development and alumni relations activities of the volunteer advisory boards for the college.

• Plans, recommends and carries out strategies for donor cultivation activities in the College.

• Coordinates stewardship reports and activities for assigned prospects with appropriate members of the administration and faculty of the College.

• Develops draft proposals and agreements for named initiatives and recognition opportunities for donors.

• Participates in the prospect tracking and solicitation clearance process.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree and minimum of seven years fund raising job experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in major gift fund raising highly desirable, preferably in a university or college environment. Ability to develop and implement short-and-long-term goals and plans. Experience supervising personnel with frontline fundraising responsibilities. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with prospects, donors, deans, and faculty. Ability to persuade and influence others. Possess strong self-motivation and skills for developing and implementing new strategies and procedures. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment and work effectively within a diverse community. Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures. Proficiency with the use of personal computers and related software applications.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Local and domestic travel required.
