Assistant Director, Donor Relations - College of Health Sciences

CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

We are currently seeking an individual to join us in embracing this moment and to help make Delaware First, forever as the Assistant Director of Donor Relations in the College of Health Sciences. Under the general direction of the Dean of the College of Health Sciences, and with a dual reporting role to the Director of Development for the College of Health Sciences (CHS), the Assistant Director is responsible as the Dean's point person for Development-related activities and supporting the engagement and stewardship of CHS alumni and donors. The Assistant Director will also work in partnership with Communications and Constituent Relations (CCR) in the Office of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR).

The incumbent is responsible for managing college-level cultivation and stewardship activities, events, and social gatherings of donors and prospects, the Dean's Advisory Council, and other alumni volunteer groups for the College, enhancing the broader stewardship strategies managed by CCR. The Assistant Director provides assistance with donor identification, qualification, and engagement strategies in coordination with the CHS development team, and other development departments.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Serves as the Dean's point person for Development-related activities and coordinates CHS Development activity.
  • Coordinates and manages college-level stewardship activity for donors to CHS and works with Development gift officers to create proper stewardship strategies in conjunction with CCR.
  • Works collaboratively with the Dean, the Director of Development, other members of CHS Development, and CCR to execute donor/alumni strategies properly.
  • Serves as direct liaison to the Dean and Director of Development on matters involving the CHS Dean's Advisory Council. Works directly with the Chair of the Council to plan meetings and works with each council member on creating volunteer activities.
  • Develops and maintains donor portfolio information, including corporate contacts, for the purposes of executing stewardship activities.
  • Provides council to the Dean and Director of Development on donor event planning and execution.
  • Analyzes and organizes major donor data in support of all CHS gift officers' portfolios, and donor qualification visits.
  • Creates, identifies and facilitates donor engagement opportunities and events such as College Department committees, student mentorship, internships, and admissions support.
  • Provides direct guidance and expertise to the gift officers in the conception, planning, development and implementation of high-end donor events.
  • Secures major donor visits for all CHS gift officers as necessary.
  • Creates and manages donor follow-up activities (confidential reporting, next moves, written and verbal communications.)
  • Collaborates with CHS Communications and DAR Communications to produce printed/electronic material for donors.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree or other job-related discipline and two years job-related experience; progressively responsible job-related experience in addition to a high school diploma or GED may be substituted for required education; effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; effective organizational skills and attention to detail, with ability to use sound judgment, initiative and discretion in all interactions with constituents; extensive knowledge of office practices and procedures, proficiency in Windows, Microsoft Office Advance donor software, and other electronic communication and internet research; ability to successfully manage complex projects, often simultaneously; proven ability to meet deadlines; ability to work creatively and effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community; ability to work with a team as well as independently; ability to develop and implement short-and-long-term goals and plans; knowledge of University policies and procedures desirable.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
