Texas A&M University Health Science Center (TAMHSC) (www.tamhsc.edu) seeks a strategic, collaborative and an accomplished investigator/leader in research to assume the position of Associate Vice President, Research for Texas A&M Health Science Center. The Health Science Center includes the following Colleges:

College of Medicine

College of Nursing

Rangel College of Pharmacy

School of Public Health

Texas A&M University Baylor College of Dentistry

Also included in the TAMHSC research enterprise is the Institute of Biosciences and Technology (IBT) which represents the campus for Texas A&M University (TAMU), College of Medicine in Houston, TX, and is an exceptional research institute and primary member institution of the Texas Medical Center.

  1. The Associate Vice President, Research reports directly to the Senior Vice President, Health Science Center.
  2. This individual will work closely with the broader Health Science Center Deans and leadership, Texas A&M University’s Vice President’s for Research, as well as the broader Texas A&M University system to enhance and facilitate their collaborative research and scholarship.
  3. Expectations are that the Associate Vice President, Research will advance the research mission and vision of the Health Science Center by nurturing scholarship and sustained growth of extramural research funding.

Professional Qualifications:

The AVP, Research will oversee academic and scientific components of all Texas A&M Health Science Center research and research training activities within a well-respected institution advancing knowledge through innovation and discovery.

  • An earned doctorate - M.D. or Ph.D. in a discipline directly related to the mission of the Health Science Center components.
  • Ten or more years of research and/or sponsored program administrative management with a record of success in organizing a research initiative.
  • Possess a record of recognized achievement in research and/or clinical pursuits, that would support the rank of Professor in an appropriate academic unit.
  • National recognition as evidenced by involvement in academic societies at national level.
  • For MD applicants, possession of, or eligibility for, a medical license in the State of Texas.
  • He/she will serve as a catalyst and a guiding force that provides vision and leadership around institutional strategic planning for research activities.
  • He/she will provide vision and leadership around TAMHCS research mission as it continues to build its extramural funding base and expands its reputation for scholarly excellence.
  • He/she will successfully integrate activity of researchers, upholding the highest standards of excellence in biomedical research and research education and influencing opportunities for discovery by our medical and biomedical graduate students. The Associate Vice President will collaborate with the leaders of the PhD and Master’s Programs in Biomedical Science and Translational Medicine.
  • He/she will foster the entire spectrum of research activity from pre-clinical through clinical, health services, and health policy with a commitment to translation.
  • He/she will work collaboratively to recruit outstanding faculty scientists and leaders to expand and direct the staff that are primarily focused on research.
