Assistant or Associate Professor as Director of African American Studies

The College of Letters and Science at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh invites applications for an assistant professor (tenure track) or associate professor (tenure possible upon appointment) as Director of African American Studies, discipline open. We are searching for an individual who will help to promote and expand the African American Studies Program through ongoing curricular development, campus leadership, and community outreach/recruitment.

Responsibilities include teaching courses for the African American Studies minor and in the disciplinary home department, as well as advising and mentoring students. This position is responsible for teaching, research and service as outlined in the home department’s tenure, renewal and promotion criteria.

Requirements:

• Ph.D. or appropriate terminal degree. ABDs with a reasonable likelihood of degree completion prior to hiring may also apply
• At least two years post-doctoral college teaching experience
• An active research agenda relevant for African American Studies
• Significant experience in advising and mentoring students, especially those typically underrepresented on college campuses
