Gallery Curator



Function:
To support the educational mission of the college, enhance instruction in visual arts, foster engagement between professional artists and students, expand the aesthetic awareness of the entire community via contact with student work and evocative contemporary artists who deal with culturally relevant issues. Plan, promote and administer college-wide exhibitions, including but not limited to the Safety Kleen Gallery, the E. Max vonIsser Gallery of Art, library gallery and common public spaces. Pursue external and internal support for the exhibitions program and continue to expand the permanent art collection, adding to the aesthetic and cultural development of the college, students and community. Collaborate across disciplines, departments and with community organizations in order to maximize resources. Provide presentations and guest teaching to supplement instruction for ECC credit classes, gallery's visitors, student clubs and other organizations. Design, organize, or conduct tours, workshops, and instructional events that familiarize students and community members with the ECC's substantial permanent art collection as well as the work of exhibiting artists.

Essential Responsibilities:
1. Develop vision and plans for the ECC art exhibition programs through building collaborative trusting relationships with ECC faculty, administration, staff and the community.

2. Curate, select, schedule and install exhibitions.

3. Develop and coordinate professional artist residency activities that promote student/artist engagement.

4. Provide operational support for gallery programs.

5. Manage, display and preserve the college's permanent art collection.

6. Act as a guest teacher in art appreciation, art history, studio art, design and other classes to supplement the needs of ECC's credit classes.

7. Prepare and execute gallery presentations, tours, workshops and educational sessions.

8. Acquire art for the Colleges' collections; install and rotate permanent art collection in public spaces and grounds.

9. Develop curricular and programmatic complements to exhibitions (receptions, lectures, etc.) by exhibiting artists, critics and art historians. Prepare and conduct gallery presentations relating to current exhibits for students and public.

10. Prepare and administer the College's art exhibition budget.

Required Qualifications:
1. Master in Fine Arts ? Art or related degree

2. Minimum three years' professional experience curating and installing exhibits, which includes packing, unpacking and the correct handing of artwork. Or equivalent professional experience.

3. Experience teaching Art Appreciation, studio art or other art courses.

4. Extensive knowledge of art history, contemporary art, and art trends.

5. A working knowledge of art installation techniques and archive maintenance.

6. Highly refined aesthetic and interpretive abilities.

7. Experience in the creation and management of budgets.

8. Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpretive abilities.

9. Experience in the role of Chairperson of committees, with effective and collaborative leadership skills.

10. Exceptional organizational and time management skills.

11. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, desktop publishing and presentation software.

12. Flexibility to adapt to all situations and work varied hours including days/evenings/weekends/holidays as needed to support the gallery schedule.

Desired Qualifications:
1. Experience in writing grant proposals.

2. Proficient in the use of social media platforms.
