Research Associate

CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

The Energy Balance and Nutrition lab at the University of Delaware conducts research on the energy mechanisms that contribute to desirable or less desirable weight gain, growth, and nutritional status in infants, children, and adolescents who are healthy, and in those with chronic disease. Under the direction of a Principal Investigator, the Research Associate (RA) will be responsible for the overall coordination of clinical research activities with a focus on data management. The RA will assist with the development of protocols, forms and questionnaires, assist with protocol submissions and protocol amendments to the Institutional Review Board (IRB), and conduct literature reviews. Specific to data, the RA will collect, compile, manage, organize research data and files, and implement an audit process to review data quality and study compliance. He/She will create analysis data sets and conduct basic statistical analyses to support abstracts, presentations, grants, and manuscripts. Successful applicants will be highly self-motivated, organized, individuals who have an interest in nutrition and enjoy conducting research and utilizing data to solve research questions.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Support overall clinical research program, from study start up activities to study execution
  • Organize and maintain electronic study files
  • Assist Principal Investigator with Institutional Review Board (IRB) new protocol submissions, renewals, and revisions
  • Organize data, code data, and derive summary variable data to create analysis datasets for statistical analysis
  • Develop and implement systems to review data quality and study compliance
  • Perform data analyses with a statistical software program
  • Create summary tables and graphs for presentations, abstracts, manuscripts, and grants

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A minimum of a Master's degree in nutrition or a healthy related field; at least 3 years of experience with Excel and/or statistical analysis software.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of basic computer software including Word, Excel, and Power Point; some proficiency with statistical software is desired.
