Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Director of Development will be responsible for cultivating, soliciting and closing gifts of $50,000 or more from alumni and non-alumni friends for sake of the Smith School of Business and hold a portfolio of up to 125 prospects.

The Director will work collaboratively with, and in support of other development staff, School, and University representatives to cultivate and solicit donors for school fundraising priorities. They will monitor all prospect contacts in his/her portfolio to ensure positive and purposeful prospect and donor relations.

The Director must be a highly energetic professional with a track record of building donor relationships and closing gifts in the five and six figure range. They must have the ability to work collaboratively and strategically with other fundraising professionals and campus leaders.

This position will be required to travel locally and nationally 60% of the time and will be required to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education (include licenses, certifications, etc.):
Bachelor's degree required.

Experience:
A minimum of 6 to 8 years of successful fundraising or related experience. A proven record of working effectively initiating and building relationships with prospects. A successful track record of soliciting, securing and closing philanthropic gifts.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The candidate must have excellent written and oral communication skills with the willingness to make "cold calls" in order to cultivate, solicit and close proposals.

He/she must have the ability to synthesize complex material and have a great attention to detail.

The candidate must be an energetic, customer-service oriented professional with a proven track record of building excellent donor/client relationships.

The candidate must exhibit strong interpersonal skills that will enable him or her to work well with diverse groups of constituents and colleagues.

He/She must have the ability to manage many projects simultaneously and a demonstrated record of completing assignments.

He or she must demonstrate the aptitude to represent the school in a highly professional and effective manner.
The position involves extensive travel up to 60% of the time and will be required to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Preferences:

Master's Degree
Understanding of, and commitment to, the values and role of a public research university.
Experience in higher education fundraising with a sophisticated donor base.
Experience managing contact reports within CRMs such as Advance and/or Salesforce.

Physical Demands

Traditional office environment with demanding travel schedule consisting of frequent local and occasional national travel (up to 60%). Some evening and weekend hours required.
