Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President ( AVP ), Principal Gifts, and working closely with the senior development officers and other principal gifts team members, the assistant director is responsible for developing and maintaining the prospect/donor pipeline for the university's principal gifts prospects and donors.

Working in close collaboration with the Prospect Management and Research team, the assistant director will manage the principal gifts prospect review, ensure data is aligned with processes in place, and that the team is focused on priority prospects and donors.
Projects include managing the pipeline of priority principal gifts prospects, organizing a systematic series of strategy meetings, developing/collecting the relevant supporting materials, and tracking next steps and outcomes. The Assistant Director is responsible for leveraging the team's coordinator and staff assistants to enter data in Advance to accurately reflect these pipelines, and involving the prospect management and research teams, as needed, to assist with data integrity and presenting a range of metrics related to UMD principal gift prospects and donors.

The Assistant Director will closely monitor the principal gifts office budget and assist the Assistant Vice President in its annual preparation. In additional the incumbent will manage the day-to-day duties of the coordinator who will be assisting with the AVP's calendar and travel as well as provide support to the rest of the principal gifts team.

This position must be willing to work during special events, including some evenings and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education (include licenses, certifications, etc.):
Bachelor's degree.

Experience:
A minimum of three years of experience in development, stewardship or other related field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Collaborative and able to interact effectively with both external and internal audiences and capable of building strong work relationships in a complex environment.
• Excellent interpersonal skills that include the ability to communicate well, verbally and in writing.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasked environment and prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
• Demonstration of tact, discretion, and good judgment in handling sensitive and confidential information
• Able to work with figures and manage budgets.
• Strong computer skills that include competence in the use of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Must be willing to work during special events, some of which occur during evenings and weekends.

Preferences:

• Experience with using and maintaining database information, such as Advance.
• Supervisory experience.
