Mail Operations Clerk I



Function:
The major responsibilities of this position are sorting and processing daily mail/packages campus wide. Maintaining records retention and mailroom storage facility with current documents.

Essential Responsibilities:
1. Pick up USPS mail from authorized off site location.

2. Pick up USPS and interoffice mail and packages campus wide.

3. Deliver USPS and interoffice mail, and inbound packages campus wide.

4. Sorting of all inbound and outbound mail.

5. Process outgoing first class, certified, and registered mail. Mail Operations reporting.

6. Maintain mailroom storage facility.

7. Process records retention boxes, including data entry into database.

1. Provide assistance on loading dock as necessary, including securing the dock at the beginning and end of shift.

2. Correct improperly addressed mail.

3. Troubleshoot mechanical problems with malfunctioning mail equipment.

4. Work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends and holidays to meet the requirements of the department.

5. Perform other job-related duties as assigned which pertain to the job description.

Physical Demands:
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Position requires visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment.

Position requires visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned (i.e. custodial, food services, general labor, etc.) or to make general observations of facilities or structures (i.e. security, inspection, etc.).

Moderate noise.

Typical office or administrative conditions. (i.e. not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions).

Outdoor weather conditions.

Hazards. (Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to radiation, or exposure to chemicals).

Fumes or airborne particles (Includes fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases or poor ventilation).

Required Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

2. Valid Illinois Licensed Driver.

3. Computer knowledge.

4. Ability to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends and holidays to meet the requirements of the department.

5. Excellent customer service skills.

6. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

7. Ability to walk and/or stand up to 6 hours per day.

Desired Qualifications:
1. Two years experience in a mailroom environment with basic understanding of USPS regulations.

2. One year experience in Shipping and Receiving .

3. Proficient in Microsoft Office.
