Digital Imaging Coordinator (3-year appointment renewable)



GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Within the University of Cincinnati's Preservation Services and Lab, coordinate the University of Cincinnati's Library digital imaging projects and workflows, ensuring successful project completion. Operates and maintains digitization equipment and software. Creates imaging workflows, including image quality controls, digital conversion, and production reports. Works in a learning environment within a highly collaborative Library atmosphere to increase and enrich online access to the UC Libraries' collection of rare and unique materials.

RELATIONSHIP AND AUTHORITY:

Reports to the Preservation Librarian. Supervises imaging student assistants. Collaborates with librarians, archivists, technologists, conservation staff and digitization vendors.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manages digital projects and workflows, including cost and/or time estimates. Conducts imaging activities in accordance with institutional specifications and preservation handling practices. Complies with professional standards and practices.
  • Operates and maintains digitization equipment such as flatbed scanning and Phase One capture equipment, workstations and related software. Oversees color management procedures/calibration at the Preservation Lab and distributed in the Libraries' archival centers. Reviews and recommends upgrades and enhancements in coordination with the Preservation Librarian.
  • Trains and supervises student assistants to carry out image capture, preservation handling, and digital workflow responsibilities.
  • Coordinates quality control of workflows and standards for in-house and out-sourced digitization projects. Works with digitization vendors, including communicating metadata specifications, and quality control standards
  • Assists in batch processing, exporting digital content, and creating documentation to streamline processes/workflows and aid imaging students.
  • Assists with exhibit preparation including digital and print surrogates.
  • Assists with preservation rehousing projects in correlation to digitization project workflow to streamline efficiencies when possible.
  • Collaborates with colleagues in UC Libraries and other units on campus on digital projects including digital exhibits and outreach.
  • Serves on appropriate groups and committees engaged in planning, coordinating, and continuous improvement of the UC Libraries digital holdings and scholarly output.
  • Participates in professional organizations as appropriate.


ADDITIONAL POSITION INFORMATION:
  • This position is a three (3) year renewable appointment
  • Competitive benefits package and salary commensurate with experience: an annual salary of $43,000-$50,000.
  • Based on the nature of this position, the university is unable to provide sponsorship for work visas.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor degree with one (1) year experience; -OR- Associate's degree with three (3) years experiences; -OR- five (5) years experience.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience, education or training in digital imaging, operating and maintaining a range of capture and imaging technology, camera and scanner hardware.
  • Experience with digital image editing software, data management, and processing, such as Adobe Photoshop and Bridge. Experience with batch processing related to image conversion and manipulation.
  • Working knowledge of best practices and trends in digital photography, capture, color management, formats, conversions, and standards for digital objects.
  • Project management experience, with demonstrated ability to manage projects, plan and execute workflows, track progress and cost, and meet deadlines and objectives. Experience working in a museums, libraries, or archives.
  • Familiarity with standards for care and handling of rare and fragile materials,
  • Knowledge of metadata practices and standards such as Dublin Core, METS, MODS, PREMIS, VRA, EAD, and TEI.
