CHIEF FINANCIAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER

 CHIEF FINANCIAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER

San Francisco, California

Our mission is to create parks and protect land for people,

ensuring healthy, livable communities for generations to come.

The Trust for Public Land – a national leader and innovator in land conservation and parks creation – seeks a new Chief Financial and Administrative Officer (CFAO). Since 1972, The Trust for Public Land has connected communities to the outdoors and to each other. Today, millions of Americans live close to a park or natural area created by The Trust for Public Land, and countless more visit each year. From neighborhood parks to national parks, the organization has completed more than 5000 projects, protected more than 3.5 million acres of land, helped to secure over 70 billion dollars of public funds for land protection and park creation, and inspired cities and towns nationwide to work to create a park or open space within a 10-minute walk of all their residents.

With an operating budget of $70-75 million, a construction budget of over 20 million dollars,  and staff of 300 professionals working throughout the country, The Trust for Public Land offers a suite of programs and services nationwide, supported by a diverse array of philanthropic, public, and earned revenue streams. It has long provided exceptional technical expertise in conservation planning and finance, parks creation, and land protection, and is today an increasingly influential actor in urban as well as ex-urban and rural communities.

The new CFAO will join the Trust for Public Land at an exciting juncture. Under the leadership of a new Chief Executive Officer, Diane Regas, the organization is taking a fresh look at all of its goals, strategies, activities, operations, and structures, and intends to revamp and clarify its financial and administrative systems as it does so. The recruitment of a seasoned and collaborative financial leader will be a lynchpin in this effort.

Reporting to the CEO, and working closely with the Board finance, audit, and investment committees, the CFAO will play a critical role with colleagues in developing and implementing the national strategy for the Trust for Public Land. The CFAO oversees the team responsible for the organization’s treasury, financial management, and accounting functions as well as the IT, Administration, and Human Resources functions.

The position calls for a broad-gauged financial and administrative leader and communicator, preferably with prior CFAO or CFO experience, who brings not only strong technical skills but also personal qualities of collaboration, accessibility, and optimism. Candidates should have a successful track record in budgeting, financial planning and analysis, grants accounting, and staff management, and ideally will have experience working within a complex non-profit environment.
