PT Hourly POOL - Professional Nurse (Non-Faculty) - School of Nursing


Definition
Golden West College is seeking part-time hourly professional nurses to assist as a clinical teaching assistant with full-time faculty in providing assistance to nursing students following established course/clinical outlines.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
a. Supervise clinical skills in one or more of the following areas:
Nursing Fundamentals
Medical-Surgical
b. Assist student in achieving clinical learning outcomes, and follow-up on assigned clinical students.
c. Work with full-time faculty who are in charge of the clinical assignment to develop appropriate clinical opportunities.
d. Meet with the assigned clinical instructor to discuss clinical observations: student problems, and student evaluation.
e. Document the clinical performance and report to the assigned full-time instructor.
f. Adhere to the School of Nursing Student Policies.
g. Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
h. Maintain current knowledge in the performance of clinical nursing duties assigned.
i. Assignment may include working day, evening and/or weekend clinical.
Qualifications and Physical Demands
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:
  • Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with a community college nursing student in the clinical setting to facilitate authentic learning that is inclusive of students with disabilities, diverse socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and student experiences.
  • Knowledge of skills reflective of industry trends, standards, and practices.

Ability to:
  • Adapt to student learning needs using andragogy in adjusting the clinical experience to promote student clinical skill success in meeting clinical learning outcomes.
  • Provide expert basic nursing clinical skills.
  • Assist in presenting learning information in a competent and interesting manner.

Education and Experience:
  • Possession of a valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the California Board of Nursing.
  • At least one-year continuous, full-time or its equivalent in the designated nursing area within the previous five-years as a registered nurse providing direct patient care; two-years of professional nursing experience preferred.
  • Earned Associate Degree from an accredited institution; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.

Additional Requirements:
  • Current American Heart Association C.P.R. certification.
  • Current PPD or chest x-ray.
  • Current Flu Vaccine as needed (depending on seasonal requirements).
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Flexibility to orientate and work with a clinical site as needed.
  • Demonstrate excellent attendance and reliability.
  • Ability to use electronic charting for medication administration.

Conditions of Employment
Employment is on a part-time, temporary basis and contingent upon verification of employment history, background verification as governed under Education Code requirements, eligibility to work in the United States, and approval by the CCCD Board of Trustees. Assignments are short-term, temporary, and do not offer fringe benefits or pay for holidays or time not worked, and are limited to 28 hours per week or 160 days per fiscal year. The hours of work and effective date of employment will be arranged with the supervisor.

This is a CONTINUOUS recruitment for an applicant POOL to fill part-time, temporary, hourly assignments on an as-needed basis. Departments or Divisions will refer to the POOL of applications on file to fill temporary assignments as the need arises.
