Job Description Summary
The University invites applications for a part-time (50%), temporary faculty position for Director of Bands beginning August 13, 2018 and ending May 24, 2019.
The Director is charged with increasing the size, scope, and visibility of an already established program.
Essential Duties
- Teach University Band and Marching Band (co-curricular)
- Teach Applied Music lessons in instrument(s) of candidate's expertise to music majors and minors
- Develop and maintain band programs (co-curricular)
- Actively recruit students for the bands and ensembles
- Direct band performances at games, rallies, and other school functions
- Direct band practices (co-curricular)
- Maintain musical instruments, instrumental music, and equipment
- Travel with the band to games and on recruiting tours
- Other duties as assigned
There is an opportunity to direct the community orchestra on a voluntary basis.
This position may require development and teaching of courses online.
Specific Duties
- Interact on a weekly basis with students, faculty, administration, and staff
- Interact regularly with local and regional music educators and potential student musicians
- Interact regularly with the Student Auxiliary Services, the Student Affairs, and the Athletic Director
Minimum Qualifications (Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
- Masters Degree in music. Terminal degree is required for appointment as Assistant Professor, without the terminal degree candidate will be appointed as Instructor.
- Experience working with a successful marching band program at the high school and/or college level
- Experience in marching band development and recruitment
The successful candidate must be able to communicate well and/or perform well in an interview or teaching demonstration and successfully complete the interview process.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D./ DMA in music
- Preference will be given to applicants with a track record of experience in the areas of saxophone and clarinet.

Position is dependent upon funding and enrollment.
The successful candidate will also have to complete a background investigation as a condition of employment.
Background Clearances
In accordance with Act 153 of 2014 (HB 435), appointment is contingent upon completion of a satisfactory background investigation which includes, but is not limited to, Act 34, Pennsylvania Criminal Record Clearance; Act 151, Child Abuse Clearance; and Act 114, Federal Bureau of Investigations ( FBI ) Criminal Background Checks.
Appointment is provisional for a single 90 day period provided the "Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification Form" and verification of your application for the three background checks are returned to Deana Hill, Associate VP for Human Resources.

Annual Security Report (Clery Act)
The Lock Haven University's Annual Security Report and Fire Safety Report are now available on-line or in paper form by request. Federal law requires these reports to contain policy statements, crime and fire safety statistics for the university. The policy statements address the university's policies, procedures, and programs concerning safety and security, i.e. policies for responding to emergency situations, fire safety procedures and statistics, and sexual offenses, etc. Three years' worth of statistics is included for certain types of crimes that were reported to have occurred on campus, in on-campus buildings, or off-campus sites property owned or controlled by the university and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to the campus.
