Director, LGBTQ

Are you interested in working with LGBT students at an urban serving institution? Do you have the drive and enthusiasm to lead a student-centric center? You can be a part of a team focused on student support and development by joining a dynamic team of student affairs professionals. We are seeking highly motivated individuals with a drive to work with and develop students to apply for the Director-Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) Center position at the University of Cincinnati.

Essential Function: Under general supervision from a designated administrator, provide leadership, student learning and development, and strategic planning for the LGBTQ Center.

Characteristic Duties:
  • Day-to-day responsibilities include providing leadership, student learning and development, and strategic planning for the Center
  • Advocates for an institutional commitment to understanding and addressing LGBTQ issues and concerns contributing an inclusive and supportive campus climate that increases the likelihood of retention and academic success for LGBTQ students.
  • Design and deliver an array of educational programs and campus-wide trainings for faculty, staff, students and community members about the LGBTQ community and related issues including, such as Safe Zone, Advocate, and Activist trainings, in-class presentations, and community workshops on LGBTQ topics Assess training needs through focus groups, unit consultations and national benchmarking and develop new trainings to respond to identified needs.
  • Provide support, coordination, and leadership to LGBTQ student organizations and other campus efforts focused on LGBTQ education and awareness.
  • Advise and make recommendations to university administration (through Vice President for Student Affairs) on issues of diversity and LGBTQ equity, including policy updates, campus environment concerns, and national trends.
  • Regularly evaluate and assess programing for Gather and analyze qualitative and quantitative data related to LGBTQ programs, service, and climate. Work with the Division's assessment committee protocol and establish benchmarks for the Center.
  • Oversee the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of Center staff; develop and maintain process for work and project flow for the staff.
  • Manage all aspects of office budget.
  • Serve as a liaison representing the Center and the University of Cincinnati, as appropriate
  • Develop leadership-training programs for undergraduate and graduate students as well as opportunities to develop skills as activists, peer coaches, and advisors.
  • Provide informal advising to LGBTQ students, faculty, and staff and collaborate with campus partners and key stakeholders in the coordination of support resources and services for LGBTQ students
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need.


Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor degree with five (5) years of experience; -OR- Associate degree with seven (7) years of experience; -OR- nine (9) years of experience. Degree must be in Education or a related field.

Preferred qualifications: Master's degree in Counseling, Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, or Gender & Sexuality Studies related field preferred, with at least three to five years of full-time student affairs professional experience including experience supervising full-time professional staff members. Comfortable with consulting current literature to develop evidence-based practice to support LGBT students and promote inclusive excellence. Progressive experience with LGBTQ programming/organizations; strong understanding of contemporary diversity, cultural awareness, gender equity, inclusion, social justice, sexuality and gender identity college student development with an intersectional and global context, multiculturalism concepts and issues as they apply to higher education. In addition to having strong oral and written skills, successful candidates must have a personal demeanor that inspires excellence and collaboration. Experience with managing budgets, program evaluation, assessment and learning outcomes is strongly encouraged.
