Educational Leadership Specialist

PAY GRADE: 31E

DEADLINE: Open until Filled

CONTEXT OF JOB:

Under the limited direction of the Director of the Delaware Academy for School Leadership, the Educational Leadership Specialist is committed to working with and supporting educators in schools by designing and delivering high quality professional development, coaching teachers and administrators, and influencing state policy related to standards, training, and working conditions for teachers and school leaders. This position requires someone with significant success in PK-12 educational leadership in low-performing urban and or rural schools with diverse populations. The position requires coaching and professional development, as well as experience working with Professional Learning Communities (PLC's), writing School Improvement Plans, responding to Requests for Proposals from the Delaware Department of Education or other external funding source, and understanding performance evaluation systems for teachers and administrators. This person must be committed to growing and developing school leaders throughout the career continuum, preparing them to tackle the challenges of leading schools in the 21st-century.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop partnerships with school districts and schools.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate customized professional development and coaching services to school and district leaders.
  • Assist in recruiting and hiring staff for designated projects.
  • Supervise support staff involved with designated projects.
  • Execute assigned contracts and work projects to meet contract and work project requirements including timelines and deliverables.
  • Assist with budget management.
  • Market services of the Delaware Academy for School Leadership via assigned meeting attendance, printed materials, product production, and networking.
  • Evaluate teachers and administrators as assigned using the DPAS framework.
  • Respond to Requests for Proposals from the Delaware Department of Education and other external funders as assigned.
  • Provide policy leadership by serving on state and national committees.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership or related field and five years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Doctor of Education preferred.
  • Experience as a teacher.
  • Experience as a school and district administrator with a strong record of instructional leadership, organizational improvement efforts, developing, supervising, and mentoring educators.
  • Advanced knowledge of Danielson's Evaluation Framework and Delaware's Evaluation System (DPAS 2).
  • Ability to work with a variety of stakeholders, including state department, district, and school administrators, district and state board members, teachers, parents, and community members.
  • Experience delivering professional development in schools, or at state and national conferences.
  • Advanced knowledge of the school improvement process.
  • Experience working in low-performing urban and rural schools with diverse populations.
  • Knowledge about state and national regulations and policies related to professional standards for educational leaders, principal pipeline and preparation, succession planning, performance appraisal system for educators, working conditions for school leaders, and curriculum standards.
  • Knowledge and experience in developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating School Improvement Plans.
  • Experience in rural or urban education.
  • Competency in current research-based instructional strategies.
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Accessible, reliable transportation in order to travel in-state and out-of-state with short notice, sometimes for a week.
