About the College/Department
The Department of Agricultural Education, Communications, and Technology is an academic department within the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences at the University of Arkansas. The department has four undergraduate concentrations - agricultural education, agricultural systems technology management, agricultural communications, and agricultural leadership - and a master of science in agricultural and extension education.

Summary of Job Duties
This position will be an approximately 50% teaching (including student services), 40% research, and 10% service assignment. The successful candidate s primary responsibility will be to provide leadership for a teacher education program in agriculture and to develop and maintain a robust extramurally-funded research program focused on teaching and learning in the agricultural sciences and technologies. Agricultural education teacher preparation programs are expected to include STEM integration as a focus for instruction and research, and includes agricultural mechanical technologies. The candidate will primarily teach courses in agricultural education with applied agricultural systems technologies as a secondary emphasis. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence or potential for excellence in grant writing and management, reporting research results in peer-reviewed publications and professional meetings, and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses related to teacher education and to the application of STEM technologies. The candidate will also be expected to advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, provide service to the department, college, university and state as appropriate for his/her expertise, and to collaborate effectively with research and extension faculty in related disciplines.

  • An earned doctorate in agricultural education or closely related field from a nationally recognized and accredited institution
  • At least three to five years of experience in teaching agriculture at the high school level
  • Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to conduct independent and collaborative research


Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to work across fields of agricultural education and agricultural technology systems
  • Demonstrated ability to work in campus-based academic programs as well as community-based extension programs
  • Experience in educational applications of agriculturally-related STEM concepts, particularly in the applied agricultural technologies
