Job Summary: Applicants should be interested in injury, coagulation, and surgical techniques, and will need the following skills:
Research principles and advancement including ability to establish hypotheses and apply research principles, concepts, methods, and techniques in the medical research field to generate and interpret results that can be used in grant proposals and publications. Independently perform background or preliminary research to develop scientific hypotheses and methods to test them; evaluate results and present data at research meetings and/or for grant proposals.
Lab management: Provide scientific and technical leadership on proposed investigations, while managing overall laboratory operations. This will include maintenance of animal colony, ordering and maintaining necessary supplies, training new lab personnel in lab techniques, collaborating with other investigative teams to gain new skills and techniques. Ability to establish and maintain cell culture lines and cellular identification analysis. Should be familiar with image capture and quantification using a confocal microscope.
Basic analytics with proficiency in SDS gel electrophoresis, Western blots analysis, DNA sequencing, PCR assays, total protein assays, ELISAs, and agarose gel electrophoresis.
Additional analytics including histology preparation and evaluation, including paraffin and frozen tissue embedding, microtome and cryostat sectioning, immunohistochemical staining of sections, H&E, and immunofluorescence.
Animal skills to include rodent and pig handling, basic blood draws and euthanasia, advanced surgical techniques for arterial and venous access, induction of polytrauma by brain, organ or tissue injury, surgical exposure of critical structures via laparotomy, thoracotomy, or craniotomy. Removal of organs, tissue, and blood post mortem from rodents and pigs. Proficiency with placement of vascular and tissue monitors including intravenous lines, intra-arterial lines, intracranial and intracerebral monitors. Experience in rodent behavioral testing such as Morris water maze (cued), MWM (reduced), reversal, zero maze, locomotor activity, narrow bridges, novel object recognition, apomorphine challenge and Rotorod performance testing.
Minimum Qualifications: PhD, MD, or MD/PhD. Theposition is funded by the Department of Defense. Only US citizens orgreen cardholders areeligible.
