GENERAL DESCRIPTION: UC Libraries (UCL) seeks a knowledgeable, motivated, service oriented tenure-track faculty Learning and Research Librarian to develop and deliver innovative research, digital literacy and instructional service to the UC community. The librarian leads UCL undergraduate research/scholarship initiatives and serves as a primary advocate for undergraduate library users. The librarian develops, communicates, organizes, implements, and evaluates services and resources. The librarian contributes to the success and development of library initiatives by participating in library-wide committees and teams. This position aligns with the UCL strategic direction to promote students' dynamic interaction with resources in order to construct new knowledge, develop innovative ideas and contribute to scholarship and the university's strategic direction of providing the students an academically excellent environment with a clear focus on cultivating their ideal future. This is a tenure track faculty position.

RELATIONSHIP AND AUTHORITY: Reports to and receives general direction from the Head of the Research, Teaching, and Services Department, and has a dotted line report to the Associate Dean for Library Services for organization wide digital-enriched teaching and learning strategies.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Contributes to the teaching and learning with primary focus on undergraduates by instructing students using new pedagogies and experimenting with new approaches both in the classroom and virtually.
• Explores new learning theories, design principles, and new technologies and applies them to new pedagogical initiatives including digital literacy/fluency and evidence-based educational practices.
• Coordinates UCL undergraduate initiatives with the Provost's Office, including undergraduate research/scholarship initiatives and common reading initiatives.
• Collaborates with UCL informationists, subject librarians, faculty, and students regarding research, digital literacy, digital creation, publication, and storage of their research.
• Instructs and advises students and their faculty advisors on the Scholar@UC repository regarding when and how to enter their research into the repository.
• Acts as the UCL liaison to the English Composition Department. Coordinates library instruction sessions taught by English Composition faculty and Graduate Assistants. Assists in coordinating undergraduate summer orientation.
• Conducts instruction sessions for a variety of users. Assists in developing instructional materials, utilizing pedagogical best practices, and in designing evaluation instruments.
• Takes a leadership role, in collaboration with librarians, faculty, and staff, in campus programs, initiatives, in services to digital-enriched teaching and learning strategies, e.g. information literacy, digital and data literacy/fluency, first-year students, and academic integrity.
• Develops re-usable e-learning objects, creates tutorials and assessments that support teaching and learning.
• Keeps abreast of trends in public services undergraduate research behaviors and needs. Works closely with the Assistant Head, Research, Teaching, and Services to create reports and recommendations of best practices.
• Coordinates application of data to enhance library service. Works closely with the Assistant Head, Research, Teaching, and Services to create reports and recommendations of best practices.
• Provides reference and research service to users, including answering questions in person, telephone, and email.
• Participates in developing a shared vision for reference and instructional services. Helps implement and assess initiatives that support that vision.
• Participates in university and library committees, meetings, and workshops as appropriate.
• Ability and interest in fulfilling the University's requirements for tenure and promotion. Commitment to professional growth and development.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master's degree in library or information science/management or relevant graduate education or a comparable combination of education and experience.
• Professional experience in library related instruction.
• Knowledge of emerging information technologies and their application to research and teaching and services; ability to apply new technologies to a broad range of library applications.
• Evidence of strong commitment to public service in a library.
• Demonstrated ability to serve diverse populations.
• Entrepreneurial approach to developing services; self-motivated, with the ability to set and attain goals effectively and the flexibility to adapt to change.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, collaboratively, and contribute positively to a collegial team environment.
• Evidence of excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem solving skills.
• Commitment to professional growth and development.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience in an academic library with a passion in working with undergraduate students.
• Additional academic work in education or training.
